The Department of Pharmacy Practice came into
existence in September 2001 at Victoria Hospital,
Bangalore.
The Department has a well established
drug information centre with good source of
information for all healthcare professionals.
It has
been recognized as the peripheral centre by CDSCO,
New Delhi, as a part of the National
Pharmacovigilance Programme for monitoring
adverse drug reactions.
The Department of Pharmacy Practice started
clinical pharmacy services, drug information centre
and adverse drug reaction monitoring at St. Martha's
Hospital in the year 2004.
The Department started
adverse drug reaction monitoring at Sagar Apollo
Hospital in the year 2007.
The faculty of the Department has the expertise to
take up projects in the areas of Clinical
Pharmacokinetics, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring,
Population Pharmacokinetics, Drug Utilization
Evaluation, Adverse Drug Reaction monitoring,
Improving the Quality of life of Patients through
Patient Education and Preparation of Guidelines for
the rational use of antibiotics.
The Department is publishing quarterly bulletin
namely “Pharmacy Practice Communique” which
carries information on the latest therapy of
interest, new drug, query of the month, adverse
drug reactions reported to the Department in that
quarter, drugs approved in India and banned
drugs.
The Department of Pharmacy Practice obtained
a grant from WHO India Country Office to
organize a workshop on “Pharmacoeconomics
and its Application in Drug Supply
Management” in collaboration with Central
Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO),
WHO India Country Office. The Department will be helping in publishing a
quarterly journal namely “Indian journal of
pharmacy practice” of APTI.
